Serving as a Range Officer for the Pekin Police Department is an offered secondary responsibility to daily police operations. Range officers are trained to assist with department firearm training, tactical training, and use of force training. Officers assigned to the range are trained through the Police Training Institute in Champaign, IL.

 

Range officers are expected to maintain range safety and security while assisting with techniques to ensure firearms are used effectively and efficiently. The Pekin Police Department currently has 9 officers assigned as Range officers. Aside from initial Range officer training, the Pekin Police Department offers for assigned officers to complete the Master Firearm Instructor certification. The Pekin Police Department currently has 3 Master Firearm Instructors.
